What is Guaranteed Ride Home?
We want to encourage more people to carpool, vanpool, ride transit, walk, or bike to and from work/school instead of driving alone. We are aware, however, that sometimes unplanned or emergency situations can come up while you are at work or school leaving you unable to respond as-needed because transportation decision making is out of your hands.
For example, you carpooled with someone and they cannot leave work right now to take you to take care of your emergency. Or you are working on that big project and the boss needs you to work late, giving you no notice in advance. The GRH program exists for these very reasons.
The government will pay for your Uber/Lyft ride or taxicab fare to get you home. Yes, you read that right. It’s completely FREE! Nothing comes out of your pocket. To be eligible for GRH simply register with us and let us know if you carpool, vanpool, ride transit, or walk or bike to work/school at least three times per week.
How does Guaranteed Ride Home work?
The Guaranteed Ride Home (GRH) program provides commuters who carpool, vanpool, ride transit, bike, or walk three (3) or more days a week with six (6) free Uber/Lyft or taxicab rides per year to use in the event of an unexpected emergency or unscheduled overtime. To request a Guaranteed Ride Home, simply call 1-800-234-RIDE (7433) and let our friendly customer service representatives know that you would like to request a Guaranteed Ride Home. They will do the rest.
Who can participate?
To be eligible commuters must carpool, vanpool, ride transit, bicycle, or walk to work/school at least three days a week. Additionally, you must live in Monroe, Miami-Dade, Broward, Palm Beach, Martin, St Lucie, or Indian River county.
What is an emergency situation?
– Illness of the commuter or a member of his/her immediate family
– Unscheduled overtime or extended work hours
– A carpool/vanpool driver’s inability to make the scheduled trip home due to an unexpected work schedule or illness
– Regular transit service is unavailable or inaccessible
